Features

MofTab replaces your new tab with a clock and a wallpaper, then gets out of the way. Everything else is off until you switch it on, one thing at a time. It is free to use. What follows is everything it does today; what isn’t live yet is gathered at the end.

marks a feature with a page of its own.

The foundation

Wallpapers

Every new tab opens on a wallpaper — a curated set of cinematic stills and a few live loops that drift slowly enough to calm rather than distract. Move between them from a quiet control that appears on hover, without opening settings, or drop in your own image. Anything you upload stays on your device; it is never sent anywhere. The curated collection is still growing.

The clock

A large, legible clock, with an optional date and a plain greeting that follows the hour — "Good morning", never your name. It is the one thing always on, because a new tab should at least tell you the time.

Four ways to theme it

Dark, light, follow your system, or follow the sun — switching to light at sunrise and back to dark at dusk. Dark is the signature look, but light is a first-class citizen, tuned with the same care, not an inverted afterthought.

Within reach

Bookmarks

A small set of quick links you add yourself, for the sites you reach for daily. MofTab does not read your browser’s bookmarks — these are separate, and only the ones you type in.

Search

An optional search bar under the clock. It uses your browser’s own default search engine — MofTab does not change it, does not intercept your queries, and does not add an engine of its own. Type, press enter, and you land exactly where you would have anyway.

Alerts

Notifications

A native, quiet alert when a meeting is about to start or a new pull request lands — even while you are on another tab. Off by default, opt-in per type, and asked for only when you first turn one on. Nothing leaves your device to produce them: they are built from what your connected widgets already know.

What’s next

In progress

The wallpaper gallery

moftab.com is becoming a gallery of the full wallpaper collection — framed like an exhibition, not a file browser — so you can see everything, not only what ships bundled in the extension. It is being built now.

Considered

Set it in one click

The intention: choose a wallpaper on the site and have it appear in your installed extension immediately, with no download-and-upload dance. The mechanism is designed and on the table, but it is not built yet — so there is no promise on when.

What won’t change

A note on music

One thing you might expect and won’t find: a “now playing” music widget. It was planned. But the current policies of the major streaming providers don’t allow an integration like this to be distributed publicly — the open access it would need is reserved for services at a scale MofTab hasn’t reached. So it stays on the shelf, honestly, until that changes. There are workarounds; none are worth putting your account at risk.

What MofTab won’t build

Some of what MofTab leaves out, it leaves out on purpose — permanently. There is no AI here: no chat, no generated notes, no “smart” suggestions. No motivational quotes, no daily focus prompt, no breathing exercises. No to-do list to fall behind on, no site blocker to resent, no timer counting your minutes back to you. And nothing that watches where you go — MofTab never asks to see your tabs or your history, and it never will. A new tab should feel like a quiet morning, not an inbox. Everything it doesn’t do is in service of that.

A calmer tab, whenever you’re ready.
